Dear Luisma,
Basque naza "ravine" is a word widely spread across the western fringe of Europe.
We first of all have the various rivers in the Central Pyrenees called Neste and Niste.
Then there is Loch Ness, in Scotland, which is the Nassa of Ptolemy.
And there is the River Deerness in County Durham. This was Diuerness 1200.
The first part of this compound, diuer-, is a Celtic word meaning "water" (Proto-Celtic *dubros) and is a later explanatory addition. -ness is identical to Nassa and Basque naza.
With best wishes,
Angus J Huck
