Dear Luisma,

The River Urbel, Burgos, appears to be ur-bel "dark water".

A very similar river name is to be found in Lancashire. That is the Irwell, which flows into the Mersey just west of Manchester.

This was Urwel/Urwil in a 13th century source.

Basque b usually became w in Northern Europe.

Yours sincerely,

PS: An Iron Age chariot burial has just been dug up on a motorway construction site in West Yorkshire. Objects bearing strange signs have been found, but nothing which anyone can read. As far as we know, writing only came to Britain with the Romans.
